To mark SG60, GSS will be donating valuable family history books and zupus to NLB management.

After the short but meaningful ceremony, the next highlight of the programme to mark SG60 is a special talk by award-winning photographer Charlie Lim. Through his striking portraits, Charlie captures the diversity, resilience, and spirit of Singaporeans, from Cultural Medallion recipients to everyday heroes. His talk will also explore the stories behind selected portraits and the role of family histories in shaping our national identity.

On 10 August 2025, “Genealogy Society Singapore Celebrates SG60” event at the National Library’s Possibility Room brought together around 80 participants in a well-attended session on family, heritage, and history.

Graced by National Library Board (NLB) senior management Deputy CEO Catherine Lau and Director National Library Alicia Yeo, the well-attended programme began with a zupu and family history books donation ceremony, where important family records were formally handed to the National Library Board’s senior management for safekeeping.

This was followed by a heartfelt and personal presentation from photographer Charlie Lim on his “Faces of SG60: Portraits of a Nation” project, which documents the diversity of Singaporeans and their family stories. He had an engaging and entertaining talk that covered his experiences in the arts and heritage sector, as well as a showcase of the many faces of different Singaporeans he had engaged. His diverse group of Singaporeans in his portraits showcased the talents and knowledge of people from different races and families in Singapore.

The talk concluded with a live demonstration of Charlie’s artistic process, offering participants a closer look at how these portraits are created with live volunteers.

The afternoon provided an opportunity for meaningful exchanges on the value of preserving family records, the role of heritage in shaping identity, and the importance of passing history down to future generations.
