The 12th Edition of the Pang Family (Singapore) Genealogy Book was launched on 13 December 2022. With a history of more than 600 years, the Singapore branch of the Pang family traces its roots to Feng Yonghui (冯永辉). Born in the 14th century, he was an imperial scholar who was posted to Hainan Island as a government official.  In the early 20th century, members of the family migrated to Singapore and the “Feng” surname was romanised to “Pang”. The Singapore branch of the family is currently in their 22nd to 25th generations.

The book in four volumes is published in English and Chinese. The first volume covers the history of the family and the second contains translations of classical Chinese texts including the ancestors’ family laws and mottos. Volumes three and four contain biographical information of family members.

From the editors

“Many Chinese families keep and update their family genealogy books. Our family record has been continuously updated for six centuries. By making our Genealogy Book available online, we hope more Singapore families will write down their family stories.” – Co-editor Prof Pang Eng Fong

“It is popular to believe that our achievements are due to personal effort and our own merit. As I researched our family history, what impressed me most was how the decisions and efforts of my ancestors, even those centuries ago, reverberate in my life. Family history teaches us humility and gratitude about our place in history. We can see how much we owe to our forebears’ work, to our genes and to sheer good fortune.” – Co-editor Ms Pang Sze Yunn
